Joe Strummer (1952-2002) was the lead singer of epic British punk band The Clash, and a strident antiestablishment voice. Strummer's unexpected death in 2002 shook Generation X alternative music fans, including Craig Finn, leading many to realize that he was, as Finn sings, "our only decent teacher."
